Friday Faves

This Friday Faves is going to be way easier than last weeks. I was so busy and so many great things happened. It's almost too difficult to pick...

1. Joe's Birthday!
I had so much fun celebrating Joe's birthday on Sunday. I had to make this one thing because I couldn't pick just one thing from that day that would be my favorite. We had Five Guys with some friends and ate Coldstone cupcakes and watched Twilight with Rifftrax. We had BD's for dinner and I had some much needed relaxation after a long week.

2. Anatomy and Physiology
I am so excited about this class. I love studying for it. I love going to it.  It's so much fun. I am so excited for the semester in this class.

3. Pay Day!
It's pay day! Woot! My first check from Subway!

4. NyQuil
This is heaven in a bottle when you are so sick you can barely function. Much like myself at the moment. Hopefully a good night's sleep will help me get rid of this yucky cold.

5. Doctor Scholl's Massaging Gel Inserts
Also heaven when you are on your feet for 8 hours. Not necessarily perfect but worth the $10. My feet started to hurt later and less intense in the day.

Fall TV Shows

I am so excited for fall. And that's partly because all the shows I love will be back with new seasons! I don't have a lot of time for TV and I work during prime time but here's what I'll be keeping up with this fall via Hulu and Joe. They aren't ranked because they are all so awesome.

The Big Bang Theory - September 27
I am so excited for the return of the nerd herd despite the slightly less dramatic cliffhanger season 5 finale. While it was less dramatic, it made up for it with like a dozen "AWWW" moments! Anyways, I really hope season 6 sees the addition of Bernadette and Amy to the opening credits. They are part of the regular cast but I still struggled to find a picture like this with the new leading ladies. Don't get me wrong, I have a giant tier 1 girl crush on Penny. I just love Amy and Bernadette too. And they should get some recognition considering it's been confirmed that Stuart will be promoted from a recurring guest to series regular. I am most looking forward to the progression of Penny's character as the creators have confirmed they have put an emphasis on growing her and progressing certain aspects of her life beyond her love life!

2. Community - October 19
I am insanely nervous for Community's return. With the creator, two producers, and two writers leaving the show, I'm not really sure what direction the show is going to go in. To be honest, this season could be absolutely terrible. Especially considering some of the slightly too crazy plot lines of season three.  Only time will tell...

3. Doctor Who - September 1
Finally! I feel like I've been waiting forever for some new Doctor Who but really it's been 8 months. I am so looking forward to some Dalek shenanigans and to see Moffat's brilliant mind at work once again. Will the Ponds die in some epic nonsense? If they do, I hope the Doctor takes them to the library to be uploaded with their daughter. If not, I hope we find out their lives don't go back to being slow, boring, and all in the right order. I expect their exit to be nothing less than epic.

4. Grey's Anatomy - September 27
I sighed a huge sigh of relief when I read that Ellen Pompeo, Patrick Dempsey, Sandra Oh, Justin Chambers, Chandra Wilson, and James Pickens Jr. have all signed contracts for the next two seasons. With Eric Dane and Chyler Leigh leaving, it will be nice to know that the season premier won't kill off any  the last 6 original cast members. That being said, I don't think I'll be too sad if Arizona Robbins dies. Sure, it will be sad for her wife and baby. But I don't think Arizona is a particularly great character. I think she's sorta in there because they thought of all these great little dramas between her and Callie.

5. How I Met Your Mother - September 24
I'm going into this season of HIMYM holding my breath. This could be our last year with the gang! I can't decide if it would be worse if this was their last season or next year will be their last season. But anyways, I am so excited to see some fun with Marvin Wait-For-It Erikson! And I am looking forward to seeing how Barney gets from proposing to Quinn and marrying Robin. Should be a great year for the gang.

Friday Faves

It's Friday again! I wish I could say I'm looking forward to a nice relaxing weekend but I'm actually only looking forward to a nice relaxing Sunday. Subway owns my soul. I'm warning you... this is probably the most random list of all time. But when Subway owns your soul, it really is the little things in life that
get you through working 80 kajillion hours a week. But here's my five favorites for my fourth week of blogging.

1. This Video
Pretty epic if I do say so myself.

2. Gravy
Thank you, gravy. For fixing my sad, dry rice problem. And making my chicken extra tasty. And for making my list a little sad because let's be honest, when gravy makes your faves for a week, its a work infested, sad sad week.

3. My Siblings
This picture just cracks me up!

4. My Dry Erase Calendar
I am a giant nerd. I sat down this week and planned out what I am going to eat after I get paid. Even snacks. It's color coded. And I just look at it every once in a while and smile. It makes me so happy. I told you. Nerd.

5. My Copco Tumbler
If you don't have one of these, you live a sad life. Seriously though, this thing saves my butt at work for two reasons. First, I like using my own cup because using the employee cups means one more thing I'd have to wash at the end of my shift. Second, with unlimited pop, I'd be drinking so many calories in a shift. Like 88oz of pop. But instead, I use water in my own cup because I don't like washing it. So my laziness saves me again. :)

Fall Bucket List

I love the autumn! It's quite possibly my favorite time of the year. I could live on all things pumpkin and I love my hoodies and jeans. I decided to make a bucket list of activities for this year. I plan on taking pictures and blogging about all of it! I'm really excited to get started on this project and Joe is going to help me. Mostly because I have no idea how I'll accomplish this without him. Some other posts you can look forward from me this fall are: pumpkin chocolate chip cookies, apple cake, and what to wear for bid day!

Friday Faves

Here we are again. The end of my third week blogging. I have to say I'm really enjoying it and I really love doing these Friday Faves because it gives me something to think about all week so I'm not saying the same thing over and over again.
1. Joe
He is always a fave in my life but this week he has definitely been the best. He helped me move into my new place. And by helped, I mean he carried all my stuff up two flights of stairs while I obsessively hung my clothes on hangers that are color coded. He really is the best friend I could ask for. And he drove me to my interview on Monday. And dealt with my nonsensical worries about not getting a job I am totally qualified for...

2. Subway!
That's right! I got a job. But not the one I was expecting... I ended up going to the wrong Subway for my interview. They asked me what my availability was and told me to come back after my interview with the right Subway. When I went back, they hired me on the spot! Awe yeah! And then, for the first time in my life I got to turn down a job when the first Subway called me back. And then also for the first time in my life, Biggby called me for an interview and I got to turn them down! It was so exciting! I started training this morning and I'm hoping everything goes well and I don't have to think about interviews and nonsense for a while.

3. Five Guys
Have you tried this place? You really need to. The best burger I've ever placed in my face. Except for Joe's. But still. And the Cajun fries? OMG! Get a regular order because I can't even imagine what a large order looks like. With the regular order they put a scoop of fries in a cup and then added an extra scoop to the bag! It was just so yummy. And at the Five Guys we went to, they had these crazy cool pop machines where you could get basically any flavor in any pop. I had raspberry sparkling water and Joe had raspberry Sprite. We are so looking forward to going back for his birthday!

4. My bed
Seriously. After 3 and half long months, we have been reunited. And I am so so so happy. I had forgotten how comfortable it is. I have missed having a big bed all to myself for so long. I have a feeling this will be one of my faves for a while.

5. Picasa
Have you tried this software?! It helped me create my fall bucket list image that I will be sharing with you and it was so much easier than when I tried to do it in point. It was so exciting! It's the little things, people.

Blueberry Crumb Bars

Joe and I have been obsessed with picking our own blueberries since we tried it just for fun last year. This year, we missed most of the blueberry season while Joe was at Jasper. We did manage to go twice and the last time we made these delicious bars. Joe and I are planning our own variation with apples, brown sugar, and cinnamon. I'm sure it would be good with fresh blackberries, pumpkin puree, or peaches and raspberries. Here is the original recipe from Sweet Remedy.

A few tips to make the perfect blueberry bars:

  • Let them bake until the top looks golden and delicious. We pulled it when we thought it looked "good enough" but if you want a nice crispy top, wait.
  • Let it cool completely. Again, we cut into it when we decided it had "cooled enough" and by the end of the pan, the bars sat in a puddle of moisture that didn't hinder the taste but definitely hindered the texture.
  • Make sure every layer is even. The edge bars had more crumb and less blueberries so next time I'll definitely make sure the edge more even with the middle.
  • You could also add a little lemon zest to the crumb part instead of cinnamon. We didn't add the cinnamon because we didn't think it would pair with the blueberries. Next time we are definitely adding some lemon.

Friday Faves

So here we are again. Sometimes, it's hard to come up with 5 things about your week that are actually positive. Like this week. When I spent a lot of time doing things I'd been dreading to get ready to go back to school. So here is the list... It took a while but it just goes to show you there are 5 good things about every week.

1. Subway
Thanks to Subway, I may actually be a tiny bit less poor soon. I got a call yesterday morning about an interview on Monday morning. So hopefully all goes well and I won't starve to death!

2. Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh-Jennings
Watching two American teams compete for gold and knowing that we would be up on the medal stand twice? Pretty cool. Watching Misty and Kerri's reaction to winning their third gold medal together? Freakin' epic. They are really cool chicks and I can't wait to watch Kerri compete in Rio in 2016. Might be a little hard to see her compete with someone else but for now I'll just remember when Kerri started dancing in the sand.

3. Go On
Some people may be upset that NBC cut their prime time Olympic coverage to show a commercial-free preview of Matthew Perry's new show Go On. I am not one of those people. The show was hilarious! A genius move on NBC's part because I wouldn't have watched it except I was too lazy to find something else and I didn't want to miss any Olympic coverage. Now, I can't wait for this show to come out because it is just so darn funny.

4. Blueberries
Joe and I have gone blueberry picking twice in the last month and this time we made some delicious blueberry crumble. I'll share the recipe later this week. It was so yummy with some vanilla ice cream!

5. My new Vera Bradley Planner
I got my new Vera planner this week and it makes me so excited for the new semester. There is nothing better than a brand new planner waiting for my notes all over it! So excited!

What To Wear.... The Amusement Park

Is there anything better than a day at an amusement park? I don't think so. I've been lucky enough to go to Cedar Point in Ohio twice this summer. The first time I went, the heat index was over 100 degrees. I spent a lot of time strategizing for the second round of coasters. So I've compiled my best tips for how to get the most out of your days at the amusement parks. These tips are to maximize your time on the coasters and not have to worry about what to do with your gear.

First of all, you have to get the attire right. If you don't, you will suffer greatly. I've been to Cedar Point at least once a summer for all of my 21 years and I have mastered the proper outfit. To start off with, you need a great foundation. I didn't put it in my picture and I'm not sure this needs to be said but skip the frilly panties in favor of something cotton. You will thank me later. Go with some cotton socks as well. And the most important part: a sports bra will set you free. I cannot tell you how uncomfortable a regular bra is in 100 degree heat. A sports bra is key. A loose cotton tank top is perfect. Anything ribbed or tight-fitting will get uncomfortable as you sweat. (I made my own tank for our last trip. Tutorial to follow.) Don't go with regular athletic shorts on this one. Old Navy's perfect khaki shorts really are perfect. If you want to go without a purse or backpack, you need the pockets and belt loops. The Vera Bradley ID holder is perfect if you're going without a bag. It has a key ring and holds a couple of cards and bills. It also fits in a pocket. Combine that with a carabineer and you can ride without worrying about  losing your stuff. I also got a Vapur bottle which was a life saver. We filled them up between rides and just clipped them to our belt loops for the rides. I realized afterwards you could get a little sunscreen bottle with a carabineer so you wouldn't ever have to go out to the car if you didn't want to. Lastly, get yourself some decent athletic shoes. Your feet are going to hurt. Flip flops aren't going to help.

If you're going to do an amusement park in this last month of summer, at least do yourself a favor and dress appropriately. Dressing just like this, I think this last trip was my first where I never thought about what I was wearing.

Friday Faves

So I've decided to at least have a post once a week and a great place to start is by sharing 5 favorite things on Fridays. It's really more about giving the week a positive spin and start the weekend right. So here we go...

1. My Vapur Bottle
If you haven't heard of these, you need to check them out. They were an absolute life saver at Cedar Point earlier this week (post to follow). They fold flat when they are empty and they have the caribiners so you can clip them to a belt loop. They are made from recycled materials, BPA free, and cost less energy to make and transport. AND they work with the Anti-Bottle Project to provide clean water around the world and get rid of disposable bottle as well as their own charity, Drops of Hope to provide aid to causes around the world. I can't say enough about how cool they are. Check out more here.

2. A nephew in Snoopy ears!
How sweet is this cutie? I couldn't stop laughing when my sister sent me a picture of my nephew in Snoopy ears! He doesn't even bother taking them off.

3. Friends
So I know I'm behind the times on this one, but my friend introduced me to this show and I've been watching it non-stop. It is absolutely hilarious!

4. Grand Rapids
I can't wait to be back to my adopted home! Just 12 days until I move into my new place and only 24 days until I go back to class. I may be a nerd but I am so excited!

5. Scott Disick
I don't like the Kardashians but Scott Disick has got to be the funniest man alive. Every time I've had a sad moment this week, I just googled Scott Disick. If you ever want a laugh, he's the guy to do it.

It Always Seems Impossible Until It's Done

I decided to start a blog for no particular reason. I just like sharing my ideas and trying out other people's ideas. I also like the idea of being able to keep track of all the stuff I do. It's something I've been meaning to do for over a year but I've always felt I'm too busy. So now I'm just going for it.
